Molly Pop
10:00 am - 12:00 pm

MOLLY-POP! Aka Molly Malone (we look after your coats – I am The DJ Cloakroom!) started DJ’ing in London, Soho, with the WiseGuys and BronxDog at the Clinic in Gerrard street back when those crazy vinyl records were the only way of DJ’ing! She can been spotted dragging around a huge heavy record bag around Brighton every weekend. Current regular DJ sets are every Friday and Saturday nights at either the Black Lion, Bohemia Club or the Tempest Inn. Playing 4-6 hour sets Molly-Pop storms through a huge mix of genres, focusing on the beat! Playing long sets of 4-6 hours, she moves through many genres, staying in some genres for quite a while depending on how she reads the crowd. Heavily influenced by old Rhythm and Blues and 60s music as well as Funk and 90s Hip-Hop, Molly plays a truly eclectic mix! Expect anything from 50s/60s Rhythm and Blues, Latin, Boogaloo, Funk 45s, Psych, Northern Soul, Hiphop, Boom Bap, 90s Indie, 2000 Jiggy, bit more Hip-Hop, Disco, Electronic music from old Rave to Kitsune and Subtrkt. Often some new Soundcloud stuff made last week in a shed.

Robert Howley
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Robert presents his inexhaustible & impeccable knowledge of all things Jazz.

Balearic Mike and Ben Monk
5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Although loved and respected within a fifty-mile radius of the record storage depot he calls a home, Baleariic Mike is one of the world’s unsung DJ heroes. His doggedly independent eclecticism, a restless archaeological thirst for lost treasure, and a keen desire to mine new music that suits his broadminded genre surfing post modern Balearic brief, put him up there with a lonely few- those who are not scared to cross reference, off road and experiment with the crucial narrative that is at the core of any musical journey worth paying attention to.

Under One Groove
8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Three stalwarts of the Brighton disco, house & techno scene rotate weekly to bring you the latest forward thinking beats, with a smattering of classics, oddities and curveballs. Wild Fantasy – A DJ duo brought together by a life long love of music, wooly hats and striking jumpers… The Wild Fantasy pair have been playing music since they wore short trousers. The Wild Fantasy nights started last year with these ideals: a small intimate venue, amazing sound system and a like minded crowd. The Wild Fantasy nights and DJ sets are summed up by the definition of the two words: wild (adj. wild-er, wild-est) Lacking supervision or restraint. Extravagant. fan-ta-sy (plural. fan-ta-sies) The creative imagination, unrestrained fancy Jamie Cruisey – Having been brought as a child up on all things Motown and super funky and with his roots in house and techno being very firmly established in 1988 at the age of 15, Jamie has a strong musical heritage in tracks that rock a dancefloor. His tastes over the years in all areas of music have broadened far and wide into the outer reaches of the cosmos hence the nick name sometimes used, Cosmic Cruisey. Expect the weird and wonderful. Andy Mac – DJing for 25 years now, Andy has played alongside some of the biggest names in house & techno at clubs all over the world, from Japan to the USA and throughout Europe. He is also a regular on the festival scene with appearances at Glastonbury, Wilderness and the Secret Garden Festival too name but a few. During this time he has held long residencies at some of Brighton’s key venues including the Zap Club, Escape Club & Audio and continues to champion new and old music alike

Resident Records
10:00 pm - 12:00 am

Setting up a record shop in their home town of Brighton in 2004 was something of a dream come true for Natasha Youngs & her (now) husband, Derry Watkins. They had worked for years & years (since graduating) in Virgin & Our Price & knew that music retail was the only job that made any sense to them. However, the corporate world made no sense to them at all & as such, when the time felt right, they made their escape, sold loads of their stuff, begged the banks & set up their own shop. Brighton couldn’t have been a better place for establishing the fledgling business – culturally rich, loads of live music venues, bands forming in every pub corner – the perfect environment for these two music lovers to get back to what really makes them tick. Since its birth, Resident has grown from a two-person operation into one that employs nine full-time music lovers who work tirelessly to provide the level of customer service that is needed on the high street today. They are all passionate believers in the importance of record shops & their place in the community & strive to make Resident the most inviting, helpful & enjoyable place to visit. When we’re not working, you’ll find the Residents rehearsing with their bands, out at gigs, checking out new albums, reading up on what’s happening on blog & review sites & basically immersing themselves in all things music related. They love to share this with their customers & this makes Resident a great place to discover new music, rediscover bands & pick up tickets for local gigs (they sell tickets for most local venues, all listed on their website & in their window). Resident stock a huge range of new releases & back catalogue across all genres & their vinyl offering has expanded massively in recent years into a really healthy & diverse selection that you could lose yourself in for hours, should you choose to. They often have limited editions, free bonus discs & indie exclusives. They also host in-stores & offer musical guidance & cheery smiles. If you’re not lucky enough to live in Brighton & don’t get to visit often, you can always buy from Resident online (www.resident-music.com) as they have a brilliantly informative weekly newsletter detailing all the new releases & tickets on sale (sign up on the front page). Resident run a great website, with speedy service, where you can order for delivery or to pick up in the shop. All of this dedication & love for what they do has resulted in the shop being shortlisted for “best Independent record shop in the UK” for the last 5 years in a row & has seen them deservedly take the crown no less than 3 times (2011, 2014 & 2015). The public also voted Resident as “best indie in the country” both times that the Record Store Day organisers ran their poll. Winners! Essentially, Resident records are everything you would want your local indie record store to be. The Resident records show on 1 Brighton fm will give listeners the opportunity of hearing an incredible selection of independent music and will give a peek into the vast shared knowledge of the presenters.
